Retrofit Stable FAQs

What is a Retrofit or Shed Stable Conversion?

A shed to stable conversion uses an existing shed or structure as the outer building. Then adds Guerilla Steel’s prefabricated panels, gates and stable walls inside to create individual horse bays. The same panel system used for standalone stables can be configured to suit the available shed space. Depending on the structure, you can install complete four panel bays, or incorporate existing shed walls and posts with securely fixed ply or mesh panels. Depending on the bay count, panel configuration and level of customisation, a shed conversion can save around 40% compared with building a standalone stable setup, particularly where existing shed walls can be reinforced and used as part of the stable rather than installing four sided bays.

If I have a shed and order a flatpack stable kit can I DIY the installation?

Yes. Our flat pack retrofit kits are designed for DIY installation and can usually be assembled with basic tools such as a drill, level and ladder. The main thing is getting your measurements right before ordering. If the panels are being fixed into an existing shed, you may also need additional anchor points through the vertical frame into shed walls or posts. If you choose a complete four panel bay, fixing the structure to the shed itself may not be necessary. Depending on the site, Dynabolts into a concrete floor may be all you need.

How does the stall framework connect securtly to my existing shed?

It depends on how much of the existing shed you are using. With a complete four panel bay, the stable can usually be fixed directly to a concrete slab with Dynabolts. For two or three panel bays, where the shed wall forms part of the stable, we recommend reinforcing the wall with ply where needed. Panels can be fixed to existing posts or walls. Attachment options include steel plates, angle brackets and tek screws or attached with welds. For securing windows and other openings we offer custom fabricated bars or bracing.

Can you custom size the stable panels to fit my shed and internal post dimensions

Where the shed dimensions are unusual, custom frame lengths can be fabricated to fit within or around the existing structure.
