  • Outdoor Modular 5 Horse Stable

A Five-Bay Horse Stable That Becomes Part of the Paddock Layout

Candice wanted more than five individual stables. The new stable complex needed to fit naturally within the existing paddock, provide secure accommodation for a growing number of horses and leave room for future expansion.

Installed directly onto grass, the 20-metre-long stable was positioned along the paddock boundary, allowing the structure to work as both horse accommodation and an internal dividing fence. By avoiding a concrete slab, the owners were able to create a practical working stable while keeping the site flexible for future changes.

A small but important design change also made this project unique. Rather than using the standard roof orientation, the 900mm overhang was reversed to better suit the property’s layout, improving weather protection where it was needed most.

A Horse Stable Layout That Works With the Property

The stable wasn’t simply placed beside the paddock. It became part of how the property functions every day.

    • Five connected 4m × 4m horse stable bays arranged across a 20-metre footprint.
    • Positioned along the fence line to create both horse accommodation and an internal paddock boundary.
    • Straight layout makes feeding, cleaning and moving horses between paddocks simple.
    • Modular design allows additional bays or shelters to be added as the property grows.

Built Around Queensland Weather, Not Against It

Several design decisions were made specifically to suit the site’s conditions rather than following a standard layout.

    • The roof overhang was moved to the rear of the stable to provide greater protection to the enclosed wall panels.
    • Full rear ply walls reduce exposure to prevailing wind and driving rain.
    • Mesh upper panels maintain airflow through every stable bay while preserving visibility.
    • The 2.5m roof height encourages warm air to rise naturally, helping keep horses comfortable through humid Queensland summers.

A Grass Installation That Keeps Future Options Open

This project shows that a large horse stable doesn’t always need a concrete slab.

    • Installed directly onto prepared grass with secure ground anchors.
    • Minimal disturbance to the existing paddock.
    • Easy to extend, relocate or adapt as the property changes.
    • A practical solution for owners wanting a permanent stable without permanently changing the site.
