Our Northern Rivers customer needed an existing farm shed turned into a practical stable line without building a completely new structure. They already had a large machinery shed with unused space along one wall. Rather than constructing a separate stable block, the decision was made to retrofit three full-size indoor boxes using Guerilla Steel modular stable panels.
Each stall measures 4 m by 4 m with a 2.4 m height, giving horses enough space to stand comfortably, turn, and lie down. The stables are fixed directly to the shed structure and floor, using the existing building as the roof and rear wall. This approach significantly reduces build cost while still creating proper horse boxes suitable for daily use.
The panels use a proven ply-and-mesh combination design. Solid form ply kickboards protect the lower half of the stall from kicks and wear, while heavy galvanised mesh above allows air and light to move freely between boxes and through the shed. Horses can see each other and the wider shed space, which typically reduces stress compared with fully enclosed stalls.
By converting part of the shed into a stable line, the owner now has three dry, undercover stalls positioned close to feed storage, tack and yard access. The layout also leaves room to extend the stable run later if more boxes or a tack room are required.
