Build It Your Way

Retrofit – 4 bay Black Custom Build with Breezeway

  • (2x) 8m x 4m (32m² each)

A Premium Shed Conversion That Looks Purpose Built

What was once an open rural shed is now a fully enclosed four-bay stable designed for everyday horse ownership. The owners wanted more than just functional stables. They wanted a space that looked at home on the property, handled Queensland weather and made daily horse care easier.

Using our modular stable system, we transformed the existing structure into a premium breezeway stable with four spacious 4m × 4m bays, Dutch doors and a central breezeway. Every panel was custom fitted on site to suit the existing slab, creating a clean finish despite the natural variations that often come with older rural buildings.

The finished stable combines architectural styling with practical horse handling, proving that a shed conversion can feel every bit as polished as a purpose-built stable.

Designed to Complement the Property, Not Just House Horses

This project wasn’t about hiding a retrofit. It was about creating a stable that looked like it had always belonged there.

  • Powder-coated black steel creates a clean, low-maintenance finish that stands up to everyday rural use.
  • X-brace detailing gives the stable a strong architectural appearance without sacrificing practicality.
  • Every panel was custom fitted for a flush, consistent finish across the existing shed structure.
  • The finished stable complements the surrounding buildings while delivering the durability expected from welded Australian steel.

A Better Stable Starts With Better Workflow

The layout was designed around how horses are handled every day, giving owners flexible access while keeping the breezeway open and easy to work in.

  • Four generous 4m × 4m stable bays provide comfortable space for larger horses.
  • Dutch doors allow horses to enjoy fresh air while remaining safely enclosed.
  • Internal swing mesh gates create flexible access between the breezeway and each stable.
  • Wide openings make feeding, cleaning and veterinary work easier.

Ready for Queensland’s Heat, Rain and Storm Season

Retrofitting the shed wasn’t just about enclosing the space. It was about making it perform better in every season.

  • A new awning roof creates a dry, sheltered breezeway during heavy rainfall.
  • The roof pitch directs water away from high-traffic areas, keeping entrances cleaner and reducing surface water.
  • Full-height ply kickboards provide additional protection from wind and driving rain.
  • Mesh upper panels maintain natural airflow, while the generous roof height allows warm air to escape instead of building up inside the stable.

A Retrofit That Adds Value Instead of Starting Again

One of the biggest advantages of a shed conversion is making use of infrastructure that’s already there. Rather than demolishing and rebuilding, this project transformed an underused structure into a premium horse stable with the strength, appearance and functionality of a brand-new facility.

Design-driven rural homes wanting a cohesive look.

The matte-black steel finish, clean X-brace lines and Dutch-door symmetry tie in with contemporary rural architecture, black awning roof, dark cladding, crisp window trims. It’s a stable block that looks intentional from the driveway and stays low-maintenance for decades.

Properties in storm-prone or high-exposure regions.

Add on drainage, guttered roofing and fully enclosed bays turn an open shed into a secure storm-season refuge. Especially valuable across the Scenic Rim, Toowoomba and similar areas where owners want to “shut the barn up” when hail or summer winds roll through.

Agistment or training barns upgrading to “pro” status.

Refit a basic shed into a black, centre-aisle breezeway that photographs like a boutique barn. Operators lift their daily workflow, and their agistment rates, while clients see a consistent, high-spec presentation that reads as professional, not improvised.

This retrofit already delivers high-spec stalls, but its real strength is what it can become. Think of it as the engine for a complete horse-management hub, one that grows with the property and stays visually seamless as it does.

Enclosed Tack & Feed “Spine”

Instead of one small tack room, turn an entire outer wall into an organised storage corridor.
Lockable compartments for saddles, rugs and feed bins open straight into the breezeway, framed in the same black mesh and ply.
It keeps the internal areas focused on housing and daily agistment care, making mucking in and out smoother, everything’s within reach, nothing left in the aisle

Future-Ready Yard + Arena Integration

Pre-engineer gate posts and external connection points now so day yards, wash pens or arena tie-ups can bolt straight on later.
Each addition uses the same modular frame and connection format for a consistent fit, function, and look.
Today it’s a four-bay retrofit; tomorrow, it’s a full facility that expands without demolition or design drift.

Every Guerrilla Steel project follows a simple principle: build once, build right. The process focuses on practical planning, precision manufacturing, and long-term durability so the stable becomes a lasting asset—whether you plan to use it as a permanent structure or relocate and reconfigure the modular panels later.

  1. Design & Planning

The process begins with choosing the right configuration for your property, horses, and daily workflow. Stable size, layout, ventilation, and site access are considered so the structure works with your land and long-term plans.

  2. Precision Manufacturing

Each stable is fabricated in the Guerrilla Steel workshop using Australian RHS steel framing, welded panels, and durable roofing materials. Manufacturing in a controlled environment ensures consistency, strength, and long service life.

  3. Delivery & Installation

Modular panels are delivered ready for assembly. Many customers install the system themselves using the DIY friendly flat-pack design, while others choose professional installation. Either way, the modular system keeps the build straightforward and predictable.

  4. Ownership & Maintenance

Once installed, the stable becomes part of the property’s working infrastructure. Routine checks, cleaning, and occasional maintenance keep the structure performing for decades while protecting the horses inside.
