3 Bay Stable With Custom Roof & Container Storage

3 Bay Stable – Custom Roof

The client needed a simple way to add three horse stables on a sloping hinterland property without committing to a full shed build.

They already had a shipping container on site for storage, but it sat exposed to weather and wasnโ€™t integrated into the horse area. At the same time, they needed practical shelter for a few horses while keeping the layout simple and cost-effective.

The solution was a 3-bay modular stable block with a custom extended roof, designed to connect the stables and container under one structure. This protects the container, provides shade and shelter for the horse bays, and creates a compact working area for feeding, gear storage and daily horse management.

A key feature of this project is the custom roof extension that integrates the stable bays with the existing container.ย  This approach creates a weather-protected working zone without needing a full enclosed shed structure. Other highlights include:

  • Container integration via the extended roofing creates a sheltered working area between the stables and the container, providing a covered walkway and convenient access to secure tack or feed storage.
  • The combined roof area covers approximately 62 mยฒ, protecting both the stable bays and container from sun and rain while creating a practical handling and feeding space.
  • Integrating the container under the extended roof also protects stored feed, tack and equipment while keeping everything located in one practical working area
  • The raised roof design at the front and rear increases natural airflow on all sides, helping keep the bays cooler in warmer climates while still providing shade and rain protection.
  • Modular panel system allowing transport, relocation or future expansion

The result is a compact and highly practical stable area where horses, feed and equipment are all located together.

This style of setup works well for small horse properties, hobby farms, and private training blocks where owners want functional stabling without building a full shed or barn.ย ย It suits properties where an existing structure like a shipping container is already used for feed, tack or equipment storage, allowing the stable system to integrate shelter and storage into one compact working area.

  • Private training or spelling setups for performance or racing horses
  • Small agistment properties needing practical shelter and handling space
  • Hobby farms with mixed livestock such as horses, ponies, donkeys or small livestock

This type of layout is particularly well suited to Queensland hinterland and rural hillside properties, where space is often cut into slopes and airflow is important.

Because the system uses modular stable panels, the layout can be easily expanded or adapted. Possible upgrades include:

  • Adding Dutch style upper swing gates with mesh to fully enclose each bay
  • The rear panels could be customised to include feed hatch for easy undercover feed and watering access
  • Day Yard Fencing out the front of each stable so each horse its own small turnout area directly connected to its bay.
  • A simple custom 4 post shelter could be erected at the container door opening for added weather protection.
  • Extending the structure to create additional stables as your heard grows.
  • Connect the combined roof area (approximately 62 mยฒ) to a rainwater tank to collect around 625 litres of water from just 10 mm of rainfall, or over 3,000 litres during a typical heavy storm

The modular design means the stable system can grow with the property over time.

Every Guerrilla Steel project follows a simple principle: build once, build right. The process focuses on practical planning, precision manufacturing, and long-term durability so the stable becomes a lasting assetโ€”whether you plan to use it as a permanent structure or relocate and reconfigure the modular panels later.

  1. Design & Planning

The process begins with choosing the right configuration for your property, horses, and daily workflow. Stable size, layout, ventilation, and site access are considered so the structure works with your land and long-term plans.

  2. Precision Manufacturing

Each stable is fabricated in the Guerrilla Steel workshop using Australian RHS steel framing, welded panels, and durable roofing materials. Manufacturing in a controlled environment ensures consistency, strength, and long service life.

  3. Delivery & Installation

Modular panels are delivered ready for assembly. Many customers install the system themselves using the DIY friendly flat-pack design, while others choose professional installation. Either way, the modular system keeps the build straightforward and predictable.

  4. Ownership & Maintenance

Once installed, the stable becomes part of the propertyโ€™s working infrastructure. Routine checks, cleaning, and occasional maintenance keep the structure performing for decades while protecting the horses inside.
