Summary

This 3-bay 4×4 m modular horse stable combines heavy-duty steel framing with airflow-focused stall design and custom door options. Each box uses 50×50 mm Duragal RHS frames, 17 mm form-ply kickboards and galvanised mesh uppers to balance strength with ventilation and visibility. The stable line includes custom front doors with airflow mesh panels and a built-in feed hatch, allowing fast feeding while keeping horses safely contained. A compact steel roof with front overhang provides shade and weather protection, while the modular panel system allows the structure to expand later with extra bays, tack storage or external day yards.

3-Bay Modular Horse Stable with Feed hatch Doors

Our client needed a simple, practical and portable stable setup for a small group of horses on their property. The goal was to create full-size stalls that were safe, well ventilated and easy to work from day to day, while keeping the option open to expand the setup later as the property evolved.

We installed a three-bay modular stable line using our prefabricated panel system. Each stall measures approximately 4 m by 4 m with a height around 2.4 m, giving horses plenty of room to turn, stand comfortably and lie down. The panels combine heavy-duty steel frames with 17 mm form-ply kickboards and mesh upper sections, protecting the lower wall from kicking damage while allowing air and light to move freely through the stable.

The client also chose several custom door upgrades to make everyday horse management easier. Standard swing gates provide secure access, while upgraded mesh-panel Dutch doors improve ventilation and visibility while still keeping horses safely contained. Each stall also includes a built-in feed hatch, allowing grain or hay to be placed into the box without opening the gate. This keeps feeding quick and reduces the risk of horses pushing through an open door during busy routines.

A compact flat steel roof with a front overhang provides shade and weather protection across the stable fronts while keeping the structure neat and easy to position on smaller acreage blocks. Because the system is modular, additional bays, tack storage or outside day yards can be added later using the same panel system as the owner’s needs grow.

Feed Hatch Door Upgrade

Each stall includes an upgraded swing gate with a built-in feed hatch, allowing grain or hay to be delivered into the box without fully opening the gate. This makes daily feeding faster, keeps horses securely contained during busy routines, and reduces the chance of horses pushing past an open door.

Single Full-Mesh Dutch Door Upgrade

One stall was fitted with a full-mesh Dutch swing door, giving the horse maximum airflow and visibility while keeping the lower section safely closed. This style of door works well for horses that benefit from extra ventilation or like to look out of the stable while remaining securely contained.

Grass Installation with Anchor System

The stable was installed directly onto a prepared grass area using heavy-duty ground anchors to secure the structure. This approach keeps installation simple and cost-efficient while still providing strong stability against wind and movement without needing a concrete slab.

Horses That Benefit from Extra Airflow

The full-mesh Dutch door upgrade is ideal for horses that run hot, sweat easily after work, or simply prefer to see outside their stall. The mesh design increases airflow and visibility while the lower door section keeps the horse safely contained.

Young or Food-Motivated Horses

Built-in feed hatches are especially useful for horses that become pushy or impatient at feeding time. Feed can be delivered without opening the stall gate, reducing the risk of horses stepping forward or crowding the doorway during busy routines.

Owners Planning Future Expansion

A three-bay modular stable like this works well as a starting point for small horse properties. As horse numbers grow, additional bays, tack storage or outside day yards can be added using the same panel system without rebuilding the original structure.

QLD Family Horse Properties

A three-bay layout works well for families with multiple horses needing safe overnight stabling and protection from weather or  who want a clean, manageable stable setup. The feed hatch doors make daily feeding quick and safe, while the mesh panels keep the stalls open and well ventilated in warm climates.

Add Additional Stable Bays

The modular panel system allows new 4 m bays to be added along the stable line as horse numbers increase.

Integrate a Tack or Feed Room

An additional enclosed bay can be added to create a secure storage area for saddles, feed bins and equipment.

External Day Yards

Individual outside yards can be connected to each stall so horses can move between stable and turnout areas.

Door and Airflow Upgrades

Doors can be upgraded with Dutch-style tops, full mesh panels or built-in feed hatches to improve airflow and daily feeding routines.

Every Guerrilla Steel project follows a simple principle: build once, build right. The process focuses on practical planning, precision manufacturing, and long-term durability so the stable becomes a lasting asset—whether you plan to use it as a permanent structure or relocate and reconfigure the modular panels later.

  1. Design & Planning

The process begins with choosing the right configuration for your property, horses, and daily workflow. Stable size, layout, ventilation, and site access are considered so the structure works with your land and long-term plans.

  2. Precision Manufacturing

Each stable is fabricated in the Guerrilla Steel workshop using Australian RHS steel framing, welded panels, and durable roofing materials. Manufacturing in a controlled environment ensures consistency, strength, and long service life.

  3. Delivery & Installation

Modular panels are delivered ready for assembly. Many customers install the system themselves using the DIY friendly flat-pack design, while others choose professional installation. Either way, the modular system keeps the build straightforward and predictable.

  4. Ownership & Maintenance

Once installed, the stable becomes part of the property’s working infrastructure. Routine checks, cleaning, and occasional maintenance keep the structure performing for decades while protecting the horses inside.
