A Shed Conversion Designed Around Horse Recovery and Long-Term Care
When Jodie’s mare needed a quiet, secure place to recover, building a new stable wasn’t the best option. Instead, we transformed an underused shed on the Beaudesert property into a dedicated two-bay stable that provided the protection, airflow and safe handling needed during recovery.
Working within the existing building, we installed two spacious 4m × 5m stable bays anchored to the concrete slab. Every panel was customised to suit the shed’s layout, creating a professional stable fit-out without altering the structure itself. The result is a purpose-built recovery space that continues to serve as practical everyday stabling long after the mare’s rehabilitation.
A Horse Stable Layout Built Around Recovery
Recovering horses have different needs to healthy horses. The design focused on creating a calm, secure environment that was easy to manage every day.

- Wide yoke-style swing gates make handling, veterinary visits and daily access straightforward.

An Existing Shed Turned Into a Professional Stable
Rather than starting again, the existing shed became the foundation for a purpose-built horse stable.
- Fully welded steel stable panels fitted within the existing building.
- Custom installation to suit the shed’s dimensions and structural layout.
- Anchored directly to the existing concrete slab.
- A clean, permanent finish that feels like part of the original building.
A Comfortable Stable Environment in Every Season
Good recovery depends on more than shelter alone. Ventilation, safety and a calm environment all played an important role in this project.
- Full-height ply kickboards provide impact protection and reduce drafts around resting horses.
- Mesh upper panels maintain natural airflow while keeping the stable open and well ventilated.
- Open sightlines help horses remain aware of their surroundings without compromising containment.
- The enclosed shed provides reliable protection from Queensland’s changing weather while maintaining fresh air throughout the stable.

Upgrade ideas to adapt this 2-bay indoor retrofit for wetter paddocks, higher rainfall regions, or expanded functionality.
Add front gates or half-height doors for full enclosure.
Install additional front-facing swing or split gates to create a fully enclosed stable front, improves security for recovery horses and provides better wind control inside open rural sheds.
Anchor to a concrete slab.
Upgrade the foundation to a poured slab with solid bolted anchors. Creating an elevated platform, ideal for wetter paddocks or flood-prone blocks, increases long-term stability and simplifies wash-down cleaning.
Add a tack or feed room extension module.
Enclose one side of the shed with a modular steel storage bay, creates secure gear storage without altering the primary stable footprint and maintains a unified roofline.

Precision Manufacturing
Each stable is fabricated in the Guerrilla Steel workshop using Australian RHS steel framing, welded panels, and durable roofing materials. Manufacturing in a controlled environment ensures consistency, strength, and long service life.
Delivery & Installation
Modular panels are delivered ready for assembly. Many customers install the system themselves using the DIY friendly flat-pack design, while others choose professional installation. Either way, the modular system keeps the build straightforward and predictable.
Ownership & Maintenance
Once installed, the stable becomes part of the property’s working infrastructure. Routine checks, cleaning, and occasional maintenance keep the structure performing for decades while protecting the horses inside.
