Master Stable Builder FAQ Library

Q: Should I upgrade to pitch roof for breeding stables?

A:

Yes, Ventilation in breeding stables is important. Good airflow reduces ammonia build-up and respiratory stress, especially critical for new-born foals with developing lungs. Breeding facilities need to prioritise calm, safety, hygiene, and monitoring access, not just box dimensions.

Q: Can I Put a Mare and Foal in One XL 5m x 5m Stable?

A:

Short answer? Yes, a 5m x 5m stable is more than adequate for a mare and foal. In fact, it’s considered generous space for foaling and early bonding. But size alone isn’t the whole story.

Learn More

Q: Should maternity stables be separate from other horses?

A:

Ideally, yes. Isolation improves biosecurity and reduces stress from neighbouring horses during late pregnancy and early bonding.

Learn More

Q: Will added bays match structurally?

A:

Yes, additional bays for stalls, tack rooms and even open cattle panels integrate seamlessly. The key is planning future expansion early so your roof pitch can remain consistent and your site can accommodate your growth

Learn More

Q: Is there a limit to how many bays I can add?

A:

There’s no fixed limit. Modular systems are designed to expand, from a single bay to large commercial configurations, provided your site allows it.

Learn More

Q: Can large stables be relocated if I move property?

A:

Modular steel stables can be dismantled and relocated, which protects your investment. Even if you opt for anchors and fix into your slab, anchors can be unfastened and all modular systems retain resale and relocation value.

Learn More

Q: Are large stables suitable for commercial use?

A:

Yes. Large modular steel stables are ideal for agistment, training yards, and breeding farms because they’re durable, low maintenance, and expandable. Proper layout planning reduces daily labour and improves horse flow and safety.

Learn More

Q: What are the standard dimensions for a single stable or shelter unit?

A:

Standard shelters utilize 4m x 4m or 5m x 5m configurations with a 2.4m roof height to maximize airflow and head clearance. Price Range: Stables & shelters start from $3,500 to $4,000+.

Learn More

Q: What foundation do I need for my structure?

A:

A concrete slab is the gold standard for stability. However, our systems are designed to work on compacted road base, crusher dust, or level grass using specialised ground anchors ($100/bay).

Q: What is the current lead time for a build?

A:

4–6 week lead time. Most custom and modular projects are completed within this window. We provide a definitive timeline at the quote stage based on current fabrication schedules and complexity.

Q: What is the most affordable way to get started with a horse stable?

A:

It is always going to be to “retrofit an existing structure.” If you can take advantage of an existing shed, you can install our prefab panels available in 4m and 5m standard length or order “cut to fit retrofit” panels. Not only do you save on roofing materials but you can often get away with designing the stables to fit into corner bays, while using internal ply panels to protect existing shed walls rather than needing full panels on all 4 sides.

A corner stall can be done for as little as $3,500 using one side panel and a front gate panel and your existing shed walls.
